Hi, I'm Big nick and thanks for crusing into my website. Well
I guess for you to understand where I'm at today as an automotive
artist I should give you some background of where I came from.
I was born in Chicago and grew up on the Northwest side through
the 60's and early 70's. Now Chicago in the 60's was a gearheads
dream, and having an older brother that was into pinstriping and
lettering as well as hot rods and motorcycles, planted a seed
early on in my young impressionable brain. This was a time and
a place where a 9-year old kid could stand on the street corner
of Belmont and Harlem avenues and watch a parade of semi legal
hot rods and muscle cars crusing and stop light racing between
drive-ins. Bon Bon's I think was on Harlem Ave, as well as Henry's
hamburger joint, Super Dawg on Milwaukee and Skip's Fiesta on
North ave.. Where else could you watch a front engine dragster
go up against a blown gasser on a city street?? You could see
it all at Skip's!!!
This was the age of color, sparkling metalflake, mile deep kandy
and pearl made made with real mother of pearl. Most guys ran some
sinister name lettered and airbrushed on the rear quarter of their
cars. Chrome and More Chrome, motors sticking out of highly polished
hoods, the sound of a high lift cam and cherry bom glass packs,
the smell of Sunco high test, and this was also the home of Mr.
Norms Grand Spaulding dodge and Nicky Chevrolet!! Man the circus
was in town and I was hooked on all the sounds, shine, and glitter!!
The whole show got to me like some kind of narcotic... I Was Done!!
Now, fast forward the wayback machine to 2006. It's been 30 plus
years now that I've been laying down the old 1-Shot lettering
enamel, and in that time I guess I've worked on just about anything
you can think of. From coffee cups to coffins, from pedal cars
to quarter million dollar race cars and everything in between.
I've done work for rock stars, movie stars, porn stars, professional
athletes and everyday working guys like myself. My work has been
seen in over 25 national and international publications through
the years and I've even been on TV a time or two. Now I guess
all that's kool, but it's just what happens when you take your
craft seriously and try to do the next job a little better then
the last. You have to challenge yourself to always improve.
Here at Big Nick's Garage we do a variety of custom paint work,
from my freehand pinstriping heavily inspired by Ed "Big
Daddy" Roth and Von Dutch, to Airbrushing, Lettering, Gold
and Silver Leaf, Flames and complete custom paint for cars and
motorcycles. So, take some time and cruise through the site, and
know that whoever you are, whatever the budget that if you choose
us to lay some paint on your hot rod, chopper, or whatever you
got,,, it will be done to the highest standards and to the very
best of our ability... Guaranteed!!
